Personalised therapy
My approach to psychotherapy is person-centred, integrative and dynamic, recognising that no single therapeutic approach is right for every person or every difficulty. I place you at the centre of the therapeutic process and tailor our work to your individual experiences, needs and goals. My role is not to tell you how you should think or feel, but to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental relationship in which we can explore what is happening for you and discover what may help you move forward.
Person Centred - Intigrative - Dynamic
My approach to psychotherapy is person-centred, integrative and dynamic, recognising that no single therapeutic approach is right for every person or every difficulty. I place you at the centre of the therapeutic process and tailor our work to your individual experiences, needs and goals. My role is not to tell you how you should think or feel, but to provide a safe, confidential and non-judgemental relationship in which we can explore what is happening for you and discover what may help you move forward.
Integrative Psychotherapy
My person-centred foundation is complemented by training and experience in a range of therapeutic approaches. Depending upon your needs and preferences, our work may draw upon Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Solution-Focused approaches, EMDR-informed work, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) and hypnotherapy.
Working integratively does not mean using techniques simply for the sake of doing so. Sometimes the most valuable therapeutic work comes from having the space to talk, be heard and explore experiences at greater depth. At other times, a more focused intervention, mindfulness practice or practical strategy may be helpful. We can consider these possibilities together and adapt the therapy as our work develops.
Positive Psychology and Solution-Focused Work
My MSc in Counselling and Positive Psychology has also influenced the way I practise. Therapy is not necessarily only about identifying what is wrong; it can also involve recognising strengths, resources, values, resilience and what gives life meaning.
Where appropriate, I can incorporate solution-focused approaches, helping you consider what you would like to be different, recognise existing resources and develop realistic steps towards change. This can sit alongside deeper exploration rather than replacing it.
Advanced Hypnotherapy
I originally qualified as an Advanced Hypnotherapist in 2014, and hypnotherapy remains one of the approaches I can draw upon within my wider psychotherapeutic practice. Hypnotherapy uses focused attention, relaxation and therapeutic suggestion to help you explore thoughts, feelings, responses and patterns that may be difficult to access through conscious thinking alone.
Hypnosis is not about surrendering control or having someone else control your mind. I see it as a collaborative therapeutic process in which you remain an active participant. Where appropriate, I may combine hypnotherapy with therapeutic relaxation, breathing techniques, mindfulness, imagery and carefully considered suggestions, and I can create practices or recordings for use between sessions.
Trauma-Informed Therapy
I have extensive experience supporting people who have experienced trauma, complex trauma and domestic abuse. I work sensitively with the impact that past experiences can have on emotions, relationships, self-belief and present-day life.
Therapy is paced according to your individual needs, boundaries and readiness rather than assuming that one particular trauma intervention is appropriate for everyone.
Mindfulness and MBCT
Mindfulness can help us develop greater awareness of thoughts, emotions and bodily experiences without immediately becoming overwhelmed by or reacting to them. My training in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) enables me to incorporate mindfulness and meditation practices where these are appropriate, particularly when helping clients develop greater awareness of patterns of thinking, emotional responses and their relationship with difficult experiences.
Therapy designed around you
Above all, you remain at the centre of the therapy. My breadth of training gives me different ways of understanding and responding to psychological and emotional difficulties, but these approaches are tools rather than a fixed formula. Together, we can find a way of working that feels right for you, adapting therapy as your needs develop while supporting greater self-awareness, understanding, acceptance and meaningful change.
